Originally working with a pen, paper, a ruler and a compass, Orang has been creating Op Art – or as he calls it ‘Geometric Art’ – for over 20 years. When he started to use computers and in particular Microsoft’s ‘Word’ application in his academic work, Orang was curious to find out what else the software was capable of, particularly the ‘Draw’ utility. Several years on and it is fair to say that he has mastered that utility; incredibly all of Orang’s work displayed here was created within the minimalistic ‘Draw’ environment of Microsoft Word. To get an understanding of how Orang achieves this please see here and here.

Martin initially started creating Op Art in the 1960s and after a long break has rediscovered his love of the style and has picked up where he left off.

Martin does not work within the digital medium; instead, he works with pen and ink on archival Bristol and uses traditional straightedge, ruler and compass for construction, augmented with handmade sine wave ‘rulers’ made from composite board sanded to different dimensions.

Martin is presently investigating variations on themes, changing both line type and spacing to produce new effects.
